POTD: June 3, 2012

Would ya look at the crazy plumping my brother put in for my pool pump?  I seriously wanted him to move the pump out from underneath the deck - but I thought, just extend the hose, right - oh no, not Phill.  Now the pipes have turn off valves and stuff and as he said, the pool is ready for an automatic water conditioner - no more having to check the levels and add chemicals, the automatic one will do it for you - that is definitely going in next summer.  No question.

(Ignore the dirty rock - Steve's working on that.)

Journal: June 3, 2012

Woke up this morning and played in the scrap room until about 10 when Phill arrived.  We got started right away in our quest to get the pool cleaned out.  It was disgusting - like really, really gross and it stunk to high heaven.  I swear if I ever go two years without opening that pool again - I'm getting rid of it.  *shudder*

I mostly did that today.  Phill and Steve did a bunch of other stuff.  They finished the concrete pad at the bottom of the pool steps, hung up the hose hanger, moved the pool pump - with fancy dancy plumbing - fixed the burned boards on the deck and fixed the toilet in the guest bathroom.  They were busy men.

(I still need to clean the rest of the grease off of the deck - but the new boards look great.)

I talked to Shawn for awhile.  SMP is in a bad mood today because she wants to be in America already.  I want her here, too - not too much longer my little one.

Shawn told me that he and Meli needed to warn me that they were bringing the devil himself with them for a visit.  Can you believe this is how they talk about my nephew.  I'm sure EAP isn't as bad as they say - though while we were on the phone, he got himself naked, diaper and all and was running around the house doing as Shawn called it, "the helicopter."  Momma picked him right up and put him in the tub.  Apparently there's two places EAP is good, the tub and in bed.  I told Shawn that we'll pretend the pool is a tub and he can just hang out in there.

Shawn's also teaching EAP to say Hi Stew.  He says hi mommy and hi daddy and now Shawn's working on Hi Stew.  I guess Gina's a bit too hard so I told Shawn to teach him to say "Hi G" that's what most of these little ones around me call me anyway.  He said he'll work on that.

EAP got in trouble while I was on the phone - he was pouring water out of the tub with a cup.  His mother came in - MISTER - that's his name when he gets in trouble.  She took the cup away.

Then he got bubble bath in his eyes and mouth and while Shawn said he had a pretty funny look on his face, he didn't cry or anything and then he started doing it on purpose - blowing bubbles in and out of his mouth.  That boy is a handful.

Shawn said that SMP is a lawyer.  They were in bed the other night and SMP told him that she was thirsty.  Shawn told her it was bed time and she should go to sleep.  She said, "Daddy, if I don't drink any water, I'm going to die.  Do you want me to be dead?"  Guess who got up and got the girl some water?

She calls the furniture they have in the house right now, soldier furniture and while we were on the phone Meli spilled some water on one of the tables and SMP came right in to tattle on mommy to daddy.

SMP was getting her toe nails (or foos nagel) painted while I was on the phone.  Not a humbe modest read but an out there red.  She was trying to convince her father to paint her nails while Meli got EAP settled in the tub but later changed her mind and told him that nailpolish is only for girls.

Her favorite movie right now is The Smurfs, but she's having trouble with saying the "r", so she says Smufs.  The other day Shawn told her, "SMP, you know there's an R in that word, don't you?  It's Smurfs."  She said, "I know Daddy, I'm trying."  - twying...

Too cute - but Shawn says they're bad and they don't get along at all.  Sounds familiar to me.  He said that EAP will go over to where SMP is playing and throw her toys on the floor so she will push him and then he will scratch her face and then full on chaos breaks out - I don't want to laugh cause it's really not that funny, but in a way it really is funny.

EAP is not taking naps any more and apparently no sleep makes for a very cranky EAP.  We'll just have to wear him out while he's here - let him run outside like a wild person.

I'm so excited for them to come.  I can't wait.

After spending so much time in the sun today without eating, I was feeling a little weird today - I laid down and took a nap.

Stew showed Phill how to make ribs in the smoker - and then we all ate them.  Yup, even me - I like the burned on the ends parts.  I should have gotten more than I did - cause they were gone in like 17 minutes.

After Phill left, Stew and I watched the Dover race - boring.  Damn Jimmie Johnson wins again.

And then we started watching The Game of Thrones which I surprisingly like.  There's a few characters on there that I hope die off and die off quickly - but otherwise, I'm enjoying it.  It's not True Blood but since we finished that one - beggars can't be choosers.

I can't believe tomorrow is Monday already.  Time for bed.

Look - it's Regina's maids.  I seriously need one of those.

Journal, June 2, 2012

Went to the NJ Renaissance Faire today.  We had a great time and the weather was perfect.  The photos I'm uploading are the collages I made to go in the kids' journals - that's why there may be some duplicates (thanks Kelly for the link to PicMonkey - makes doing this so much easier).  I didn't want to recreate the wheel for pictures for this post.  More stories about the faire below the pictures.

 GEP

GDH
 WTK
When we got to the fair one of the entertainers ran up to GEP and started talking to him.  GEP didn't know what to make of that.  He got really unsure and I wasn't certain after that if he was going to enjoy himself.  We sat down to watch the opening ceremonies and he still was a little put off about the whole thing.  I was really worried that he wasn't going to have a good time.  We left the opening ceremonies early to make our way over to the Kids Magician.  On the way there, this woman asked GEP if he wanted to pet a baby dragon.  It took some coaxing but he finally relented and did it.

We arrived at the kids theater too early, so GEP played on the playground for awhile.  He climbed up and over the monkey bars - with my help.  I was too afraid he was going to fall to let him go.  He slid down the fire pole a few times - I think he really liked that.  Then it was time for the show and this is where he really started to enjoy himself.

He said something to the magician and the magician called him up and checked his head and said, "Yup, I knew it.  Do you know what 666 means?"  It was really funny.  And then the magician did a few silly tricks that both GEP and WTK (who arrived just as the show was starting) really enjoyed.  He made a cracker disappear (by crumbling it) and stuffed his face full of marshmallows only to pull them out as a cotton string.  At one point he got himself an assistant - and the trick only worked when the assistant went to pull a certain color cloth out of the bag.  GEP yelled, "he's better than you."  The assistant did it again and GEP said, "he's really better than you."  The whole crowd laughed and I sighed with relief that he was going to be okay the rest of the day.

After the show, GEP wanted to shoot the bow and arrow.  Unfortunately, they were going to let the school group go and then take a break, so GEP threw darts at balloons where he won a lollipop which he gave to WTK and then he and WTK played with the catapults.

It was nearing time for the joust so we went over to watch that.  GEP moved to he hay bales in front of us so he could be closer and I think he really enjoyed the horse play.  My little GDH and WTK left half way through so they could play on the playground.  We stuck around to watch the Falconer.

GEP really liked watching the birds.

After the Falconer we took GEP over the rock climbing wall - he really wanted to try it and to be honest he did pretty well.  He wasn't scared at all.  He got about half way up.

We then took a walk over by the lake where GEP found his favorite game of the day - throwing tomatoes at the fool.  He played that one over and over and over - until he finally hit him.  He was talking all sorts of smack with the guy too  which caused the guy to run out and chase him.  GEP had a great time.

WTK wanted to give it a try as well and he hit the fool, too.  It's every kids dream I think.  One, it's throwing food; two, it's throwing it at someone; and three, it's everything your mother tells you not to do at home.

We picked mom up but lost her at a few points - we suspect she was over talking to the Falconer - we weren't wrong.

Stew took GEP on the paddle boats and GEP was paddling with his hands and then scooted himself forward to use his feet the way Stew was.

We then met up with the rest of the gang and GDH was so excited to go on the paddle boats.  She actually was pretty excited about everything - she wanted to see everything and do everything, that is except for the hair braiding and the face painting - those she wanted no parts of.  We couldn't find her daddy at first and she was so excited so Uncle Stew took her and GEP out on the paddle boats - GEP sat in the back this time and Mike took WTK - they had a race.  GDH and GEP were egging Uncle Stew on.  I'm not sure who won - but they all got off the boats with smiles on their face.

I was holding Ms. CEH while they were on the paddle boats and she was all cuddled up against me - very comfortable but then she started getting a little cranky and it was definitely time for lunch.  We met up at one of the pavilions.  Stew got a turkey leg and a hot dog.  I had a bite of the hot dog and no one really at the turkey leg.  GEP was in no way interested.  He, of course, wasn't hungry and spent most of his time at the playground.  WTK and GDH didn't eat much either - CEH on the other hand, she was going to eat and no one was going to stop her.

After lunch, GDH really wanted to go on the rock climbing wall.  So we went over there and GEP did it again while GDH did it.  While in line all GDH could talk about was putting the helmet on - she was very excited about wearing the helmet.  Matt helped her and she did very well.  GEP did better this time and I think if he was to try it some more he'd definitely get the hang of it.

After that I took GEP to get a sword. They were selling wooden ones so we picked him out one of those and he proceeded to put on his own sword show.

About this time, GEP was getting sleepy, Stew and I were tired and Mom was done so we decided to leave; however, someone remembered that he wanted to shoot the bow and arrow (I had forgotten) - so I took him to do that while Stew and mom walked to the car.  He did a really good job for his first time and hit the target more often than not.

As we were leaving the faire he told me that he was hungry - of course he was.  I said we could get something on our way out, but we passed the main food stand and he didn't want anything there and we didn't see much of anything else on our way out.  We saw an ice cream place and I asked him if he wanted ice cream - he was very good remembering that he couldn't have sweets - I had forgotten.

We left the faire and went to Mastori's - which is a pretty upscale diner.  I ordered the fruit plate with tuna.  GEP got spaghetti, Mom got the appetizer portion of fettuccine alfredo and Stew got pork chops.  Holy hell the portions were huge.  Mom's portion could have fed the whole table and still had some left over.  Stew's pork chops were the biggest I've ever seen.

We then took Mom home, said hi to Dad who had a great day at his antennae test and then Stew and I headed home.

I guess that I kept GEP out too long because his mom wasn't happy with me.  Opps!  I'll have to keep track of the time more closely next time.  I really don't watch the clock when I'm with the kids and I didn't know he had any plans.  Live and learn.

We got home and Phill was on a mission even though he got to the house much later than he wanted.  He and Steve had poured the concrete for the slab at the bottom of the pool steps and they put my microwave and kitchen cabinet back in where there had been none for way too long.  It looks awesome.

We ordered them some food and I proceeded to steal some of the toppings off of Steve's pizza.

They were waiting for the concrete to dry enough before they could leave.  I walked out to see how they were doing and missed a step coming down the porch steps and fell right on my elbow.  I scratched up my elbow, palm and knee pretty bad and I'm going to bruise all nice and pretty but I think that I'm okay - no broken bones or anything like that, though my shoulder is hurting.  I can move it with full motion though - so no worries.  Took some ibuprofen before bed.  Hope I feel okay in the morning.

It was a long and full day - a great day.  We don't have any plans for tomorrow.  I think I'm going to help Phill and Steve finish with the pool.

Journal, June 1, 2012

Ahh a new month.  I can barely believe that 2012 is half over.  That seems incredible to me.

I got up at 4:30 today and got caught up on all of the web stuff I missed while I was out yesterday.  Nothing fascinating, that's for sure.

I came upstairs while Stew got ready for work and played crosswords - I think I'm addicted.

The pool continues to drain.  I hope that it's almost done by the time Phill gets here tomorrow.

I got all of my end of the month reports done for work and then had a staff meeting at 9.  Nothing exciting to report there either.  The sponsor of the study that I'm allocated to is having a meeting tomorrow to make decisions about the protocol.  I hope they get the ball rolling on that.  I'm anxious to get started.

12 days until Shawn comes home - whooohoooo.

I haven't worked out as much as I would like this week and that's a bummer.  Scared of what that scale number is going to be on Monday.  ACK.  I think next week I'm going to change the routine a bit and do the Couch to 5K routine on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and do Zumba with strength training on Tuesday and Thursday.  I am still eating pretty well and I'm avoiding temptation - which isn't easy, but I'm doing it.  So at least that's sticking.

I had to run down to Bel Air today to pick up ribs from BJ's.  Stew's going to show Phill how to use the smoker this weekend.  We figure he's working around our house, it's the least we can do.  While I was there, I picked up some stuff for me, too - like 5 hour energy drinks.  I'm going to have the M&Ms for a week, I'm gonna need 5 hour energy drinks.  Also got some laundry detergent (can't ever use that as an excuse for doing laundry), some cleaning gloves (I'm trying to work on my nails, so hopefully these gloves will keep them from breaking off while I'm cleaning), some body wash and shampoo for the kids and some vitamins as well as some swiffer sweeper thingys.

I also went to Barnes and Noble - and they had my journaling book.  I was so happy to find it because I couldn't find it anywhere on line.  I like them to be lined and to have spiral rings so that it folds over on itself.  I found a bunch of them like that for my kids' journals too.  I haven't been doing very good at journaling in their books, so I'm just going to start over.

Got home shortly before Stew.  He didn't have a list for me today because he was really busy at work.  HE went to Qdoba for lunch and had a naked chicken burrito.  He was going to go to the auction tonight, but we have tornado warnings in our area so he decided to forego that.  So guess what we did....

TRUE BLOOD!  We went to bed with only 2 more episodes to watch.  I really think I want to order HBO to get the new season.  Stew won't let me, but I want to.

Phill and Christina came up to drop GEP off.  He's staying with us tonight to go to the NJ Renaissance Faire with us tomorrow.   He was pretty much asleep when he got here.

We put him to bed in the guest room - he loved that.  He had the whole queen sized bed to himself.  When I checked on him before Stew and I went to bed he was sleeping horizontally across it.  Too cute.

POTD: June 1, 2012

Bought all new journals for my kids today.  I don't like those composition books - they're hard to write in and so I don't stay up with it.  I'm hoping that with these news ones, making entries will be easier and I'll actually keep up!

Journal: May 31, 2012

What an awesome day.  Headed up to Jersey pretty early to meet with Mom and Dad before we went to the farm to pick some strawberries, sugar snap peas and radishes.  The traffic was heavy in places but all in all not too bad.  Drove all the way up there without any music.  I like the quite times while driving to think - not always, most of the time I listen to the radio but today I just wanted to spend some time just thinking.  I don't always spend a lot of time doing that.  I'm typically pretty involved in other things.  So that was a much needed break.

I love that Edgewater Park and Burlington where Mom and Dad live place US flags on every light pole for the Memorial Day Holiday.  I noticed them when we were up there over the weekend, but never stopped to take a picture of them. Thanks to a nicely timed red light today, I was able to get one.

Got to mom and dad's and we headed out to the Delran Coffee shop for breakfast.  Mom and Dad have been going to that shop for many, many years - a long time.  Everyone there knows them and Dad barely needs to order - the waitress knows exactly what he's going to get.  I got an omelet and it was super good.

After breakfast, it was time to get to the farm.  Dad wanted to get their early to see if they would have cherries inside the shop.  This was originally supposed to be a cherry picking day - but the farm closed down that section due to over picking, so dad wanted to see if he could still get some.  No such luck.

I just love the shop - they have all kinds of baked goods and many different types of fruits and vegetables.  The baked goods were so tempting - but I was good.

I thought the old time appliances and tractors they had on display were cool.  Really gave the shop a very earthy feel.

GDH and CEH showed up.  I got to hold CEH while her mom stopped in the store and GDH climbed all over her Dzadziu.  We waited for a little bit and then Laura arrived with WTK.  WTK had a friend with him.  Mom went in and got tickets for the ride and off we went.

The kids had a blast picking sugar snap peas, strawberries and radishes - and by kids, I really mean all of us.  WTK was funny because he wouldn't put any of the peas that had dirt on them in his basket.  The farm had set up a dispensing cooler for water and the kids got a kick out of getting water out of that with their coned shaped cups.  I got to feed Ms. CEH but then she gave me a present I won't soon forget - boy she takes after her father in this area.

It was a great day at the farm.  WTK left to go to school with his friend and Mom, Dad, and I left because Dad had some things he had to get done in preparation for an antennae test he has on Saturday.

The farm was wonderful though and I'm really not sure how many baskets of things we got.  I think it was something like 8 baskets of peas, 2 baskets of radishes and 4 baskets of strawberries or something.

Before we left the farm I went inside to pick up some strawberries - I really didn't feel like picking them myself and I also picked up a cool crab themed sand set for the beach - the kids can make sand cookies with them.  We'll have to watch EAP though cause he just might eat them if what his father says about him is any indication.

Mom, Dad and I got back to their house and mom cleaned the peas and the strawberries - Oh the peas were probably the best I've tasted in maybe ever.  Dad also cut up some peaches.  A white one and a yellow one - they were delicious, too.  Both Mom and I love our peaches soft but as dad said, he picked these out so they were crunchy which were good to, but mmmm, a peach so juicy that when you take a bite the juice runs down your arm - yummy.

Dad was telling me about corn they got a few days ago from Varsaci's Farm and I thought seriously about going over and picking up some for Stew but then dad said that he was going to run over there and get some.  I tagged along and we forgot to ask where the corn was from.  Dad thinks either Florida or South Jersey - but we don't know for sure.

What I do know was that it was delicious.  I was glad I was taking some home for Stew.  I picked up some peaches at Varsaci's as well.  I could live I think on fresh fruit and vegetables - well, I say that now.  If that was possible, I wouldn't look like a whale.  HA!

I noticed for the first time today the paw prints in the concrete in front of mom and dad's front door.  I asked mom if that was from her cat and she said that it was.  I think that's awesome.  Dad said, "you really want to see something."  He showed me where Stew had written his name in the concrete - so, so, so cute.  I just love that kind of stuff.

Since I am now traveling to Canada, Dad went to look for all the Canadian money he had left over from his trips up there - which meant he pulled out his memorabilia box.  In it he has all of his dad's military medals and even some bullet casings from the shots fired during the 21 gun salute that was done at his dad's funeral.  Mom also pulled out her box.  Mom's box is one decorated with macaroni and painted gold.  She wasn't sure which kid made it for her but when I asked Stew he was pretty sure it was Frank.  I love it.  All these memories.  I enjoy hearing all of the stories and all of that.  Losing my mom without really delving into this type of family history with her has really made me appreciate all of this all the more.

Stew was home from work today because his hips are still bothering him really bad.  The doctor gave him prescriptions for anti-inflammatories and a muscle relaxer and told him to take extra strength Tylenol and also to make an appointment with an ortho guy.  Stew's seeing the spine specialist the end of June.  I hope these meds work so he's feeling better.

After I got home, Stew and I went out to start draining the pool - he basically just had to plug the pump in.  Boy were we in for a surprise.  There was a pretty big ball of algae floating on the top of the pool that I wanted to get out - I thought it was a plastic bag or something - that is until I saw the long tail.  It was either a rat or an opossum or something.  Whatever it was it was way disgusting.  Stew and I both think that it got in there when a bird flying overhead lost its lunch.  We can't figure out another way for that to have happened.  Just thinking about it now gives me the willies - ick.

But the pool is draining now and thank God too because there is no way I would have been able to go back into the pool with the water that was in it.

After that little adventure - it was True Blood time.  I'm loving, loving, loving this season still.  Though to be honest, they could completely get rid of Sam and Tara - don't need them.

Went to bed at a little after 11 - need sleep.  I'm exhausted.

Couple of other notes from the day:

  • Had my management meeting.  I'm being assigned another study.  A solid tumor oncology study - whooohooo.  We're only scoped to do the pre-study visits but they want them done in July.  That will be 7 visits to get done when I'm back from vacation.  I'm loving that.  Can't wait to get busy with work.  I know, I know, I should enjoy it while it lasts - but seriously, come on!
  • Laura told me a story about WTK.  Last night he was playing with some brown paper bags and he was putting his trucks in them, but they kept ripping.  So he was getting mad, he brought them upstairs while grumbling at them.  He threw them in the pantry, slammed the door and said, "I don't have time for this."  Too funny.
