POTD: January 4, 2013

I wasn't sure what picture to choose for today's POTD - I thought I'd go with the one I found a little disturbing and maybe funny?  I can't decide.  Why would you make women's pajamas and put the word cream right over the breast?  Tongue in cheek maybe?  Although, these were found at Wal-Mart, so, who knows.

Now, who wants me to get these for them for their birthday?

Journal: January 3, 2013

Woke up this morning and straightened up the house. Still not perfect. Will finish tomorrow.

Entered my time. Didn't get my trip reports finished like I wanted, but will get them done tomorrow.

Had a Jimmie Dean turkey sausage, egg white biscuit for breakfast and took my pills. Feeling a bit better today.

Spent some time reading Eat That Frog. Good advice on overcoming procrastination. Now if only I could stop procrastinating on implementing those strategies.

Christina came up so that we could scrapbook. Unfortunately, Ms. AGP was having a pretty rough day and didn't settle down until late so we didn't get a lot done. We're going to schedule more days like today and try to make scrapbooking more of a priority.

I hadn't scrapbooked since November 29 - that's far, far too long.  Going to work this weekend on figuring out what my goals are for the year, scrapping and otherwise.

After Christina left, I looked around for lunch and unfortunately noticed the pint of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream in the freezer. Ate that for lunch. Bummer.

Downloaded some books including Gena Showalter's Last Kiss Goodnight and Larissa Ione's Immortal Rider. Started reading the Showalter's book. Enjoying it so far. She's opening up enough mystery about the main characters that it's keeping me reading.

Took a nap until Stew got home. Then headed to Jersey for WTK's birthday party. More time in the car. Awesome!!!!!

The party was in full swing by the time we arrived, but WTK'S seemed pretty happy to see me. He was quite the little snuggler today. He came up to me three times just to sit with me. Almost had me asking who this kid is and what happened to my kid.

Laura hosted a Trashie and Angry Bird birthday party. She made the cutest cake. It was a garbage can with insects all over it.

And the decor was Angry Birds.

Two of WTK's favorite things.

Dad made pizza as he did last year.  It was yummy.  Here's Stew enjoying a slice.

Other birthday festivities:

Laura got him candles where the flames change colors.  I couldn't get a good picture of the different colors.
 Blowing out the candles.
 Cutting the cake.
 Opening presents.
His favorite of all - an Angry Birds trash can.
As soon as he opened it, he had to start putting the wrapping paper in it.
He also got an ice cream maker.  He kept pestering his dad to make ice cream tonight.  Dad finally was able to persuade him that they'd do it this weekend by offering him some already made ice cream in his favorite flavor:  Breyers Waffle Cone.

We had a good time at the party but we couldn't stay long since it's a work night.  Another 3 hours logged in the car today for me and another 5 for Stew - I think we're both looking for a day where we don't need to see the inside of a car.  Maybe Sunday?  Though, I'm going back to church on Sunday and we probably have to go to the grocery store.  Sigh.....at least they're short trips.

Some notes about the kids from today:

  1. CEH said her first word today.  It was "mine."
  2. MNP was in the hospital tonight.  He had heart palpitations, though his EKG is normal.  The doctor wants him to follow up with his regular pediatrician.  I hope my little man is okay.  I'm going to have to get in touch with his mom and see what's going on.
  3. Stew keeps going around saying "holy smokes" a la EAP.
  4. The WTK section:
  • Found out that one of his favorite Christmas time things is Nutcrackers.  I had no idea.  Found out while looking at his Christmas ornament that mom made for him this year.  It had a Nutcracker on it.  Go figure.  Unfortunately, WTK's dad is, well, he's something.  He's taught WTK to say to people, "Give me your nuts", "Put your nuts in my mouth"
  • Favorite Christmas gift was his coin sorter - no real shock there.
  • He's obsessed with doorbells.
  • WTK's school does a Friend of the Week so the kids can get to know one another.  This week is WTK's turn.  He and Laura made a poster board of all of his favorite things.  Laura said that it was made of 6 12x12 pieces of paper and that it had room to spare.  One of the categories is his favorite foods.  He named garlic bread and bacon among the top runners.
  • When one of the girls at his party was going to leave, she was going up the stairs away from her mother.  WTK told her, "You come down here, I don't want you up there."

POTD: January 3, 2013

WTK's favorite birthday gift.  As soon as he opened this Angry Bird trash can, he was picking up all of the wrapping paper and putting it in there - then he'd walk out to the kitchen trash to empty it.  He continues to be trash obsessed.

POTD: January 2, 2103

All day in the car coming home from Shawn's.

Journal: January 2, 2013

Long ride in the car today. Slept some, read mostly. Have determined that from now on we're flying down. I'm just no good in a car for that long.

Tried to get some scenic pictures of West Virginia while we drove - umm, not so much:

Took Sara to school. She was so excited to go and all of her little friends, especially Sam, were so happy to see her. She looked very cute in her blue dress.

Meli made us French Toast before we hit the road and Stew got in some more time playing ball with Eli. They're having a hard time getting the kid that used to eat anything you put in front of him to eat. Unless it's gummy bears. He'll eat them all day long.

He hid out in Sissy's room after she went to school.

Came home and stopped at LaTolteca just to get Queso and chips.  The restaurant is all set up in its new digs.  Maybe one day we'll actually eat in.

We watched some Duck Dynasty and then Chicago Fire. Made sure we set the DVR to record Gator Boys. Love that show, too.

Finished two books today, the Duck Dynasty book and Attack Your Day Before it Attacks you.

Started reading A Study in Scarlet, Sherlock Holmes. First time reading any of this. Like how Doyle writes which is kind of surprising to me since he is a British author.

Feeling like my cold is getting worse. I seriously hope not. I'm supposed to go to Jersey tomorrow for WTK's birthday and Christina is coming over to scrapbook. I really need to clean up that room.

Roof loan is under $10K. That's good news. Can't wait until that stupid thing is paid off.

Going to read and then going to bed. Have to get up early in the morning.

Back to work.

Ohhhh and I haven't shared this since I received it.  Look what mom bought me for Christmas (well, really was my birthday, but it didn't come in time).  It's a Stitch iPhone cover - it's awesome and the greatest part is his ears pop out so I've been annoying Stew with the whole, "wait Stew I can't hear you," and then popping his ears out.  He's sooooo cool.

And I shared this on Facebook, but thought it was worth sharing here - what is with one glass of wine to go?  I pretty much think I'm impressed by the ingenuity.

POTD: January 1,2013

After a morning spent fighting like only young siblings can, they settled down to play together.

Journal: January 1, 2013

Let's see...if I had to pick one idea that summarized today, it would be that I'm damn glad that my siblings and I are older and that we no longer hate each other.  Oh, I'm sure there were times when we acted just as SMP and EAP did today, in fact, I'm positive of it, but it's so strange to see it from the other side.

To say that these two woke up in bad moods is an understatement.  EAP didn't sleep all that well last night and as he was playing this morning before his sister got up - he wrote in her Doc McStuffins symptom journal and boy, when I say she wasn't happy about it, I'm not kidding in the least.

Here she is at the dining room table showing her displeasure and look at Uncle Stew - no sympathy.

She was going around telling everyone that she hated Eli.  Meli told her that she didn't mean that, to which SMP replied, "You can't tell me what the feelings in my head are - I tell you what the feelings in my head are."  They don't call her the little lawyer for nothing.  She went on to say lots of other things about her brother and her thoughts on the subject.  Here are a few:

"I don't want a brother in my family."

"I hate brothers."

"I never wanted a brother.  I can still push him out of this family."

I asked EAP his thoughts.  I said, "Do you love your sister?"  He said, "No."

I asked her if SMP if she wanted me to take EAP home with me.  She told me no, she wanted to go home with me.  I guess it has something to do with the pool.  LOL.

I think if my brothers and I sat down and thought about our childhood, we could recall days just like this.

It all worked out in the end, though.  They ended the night hugging and playing together.

If they are anything like us, they're going to realize one day how important brothers and sisters are and how much they can add to your life, even if they did draw in your Doc McStuffins book when they were 2.

Meli and I headed to Walmart where I picked up some more toys for the kids.  SMP got a lot of the same things for Christmas from us as she did from Santa so I wanted to make that right.  The kids were very happy with their new gifts and spent a good portion of the rest of the day playing with them.  Since SMP is always playing with EAP's remote control cars, we found her one of her own.  It's LaLaLoopsie - whatever the heck that thing is.  She loved it.

SMP also got more puzzles.  These were more challenging - up to 100 pieces, since she had the Doc McStuffins ones we got her put together in like 15 minutes.  She got daddy down on the floor to help her put them together.   They finished putting one together and I said, "How many pieces was that?"  Shawn said that it was 100.  I told him it looked a little small for 100 pieces.  He said, "It is every bit of 100 pieces."  Don't take away his man card.

Don't move the cars off the couch.  They have to be in perfectly straight lines.  It doesn't matter if no one has anywhere to sit - the cars will not be moved.

One really funny story about EAP.  I told him I was going to beat his popo - he told me only mommy does that.  So I told him to let Mommy do it.  He walked over to her and bent over so she could do it.  Crazy kid.

Stew spent a lot of time playing ball with EAP.  EAP has quite the arm - catching is still a bit of an issue, but damn, that boy can throw.

He was doing his touchdown signal with one arm - we had to fix that.  Taught him that touchdown is two arms.  He has it down now.

SMP had to show us her touchdown dance, too.  It very much looked like gangnam style.  Every time she found a piece of the puzzle, she would get up and do her touchdown dance.  Her dad told her that was going to be about enough of gangnam style.

The kids spent I would say almost an hour playing with noise putty.  Oh the fun that can be had with fart putty by adults and kids alike.  There's a video of this on smugmug if you're interested in watching it.

Besides hanging out and playing with the kids, we had a wonderful dinner.  Meli made soup - delicious.  And mostly we just hung out and talked and watched a lot of college football - my favorite!  NOT!

Some more pictures from the day.

Sara relaxing on the couch playing games on my phone.

And wearing my cool, new slippers.

EAP and Stew - giving hugs...

And making faces at each other....

And the kids showing us their favorite funny face...

Great first day of the new year.  Long drive home tomorrow.  Not looking forward to that.  Going to miss my kids a whole lot.  Won't see them again to EAP's birthday in March.
