The first day of the new year and I find myself sitting in a hospital room on the burn unit at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Not exactly the auspicious start to the new year that Stew and I anticipated. Instead of thoughts of resolutions, we think of this moment and this time. We think about him healing and recovering from the burns he suffered on Christmas Eve.
The staples were to come out today, but unfortunately, the skin graft is still a bit fragile so they want to give it another day and re-assess it then. His right hand is coming along. He could make a full fist today with the bandages off. He's spent much of the day laying back and relaxing. He did watch some of the Eagles' game, but even that didn't hold his interest for very long. I'm anxious to get him home. Hopefully, they'll pull those staples tomorrow and we'll have a target date for discharge.
